WHOT
White Horse on Tour (WHOT) was a weird idea Bob “the 'tash”, Dave “the VAT” & “ no nickname” Steve once had . They were subsequently augmented by “SA” Chris who gave some well needed sanity to the proceedings.
The basic premise is rather than spending every Saturday imbibing Nigel's excellent Ales , we put the pub on a coach (or a train) & take it elsewhere - somewhere that has good beer - lots of it.....
Since 1988 we have visited and raised Nottingham, Derby, Bruges, Brighton, Newcastle, Salisbury, Luxor (okay it was only a few of us & we did use a plane), Bristol, Norwich, Bath, Oxford & Lincoln.
The more unlucky of these have been visited up to four times. Once at a destination we tend to split into smaller parties - we can do ourselves more damage that way. We are constantly impressed by the patience & hospitality of landlords & locals in all the hostelries that we have attended, not to mention the coach driver of the esteemed Landmark Coach Company that tends to ferry us back from our excesses. In all our time we have only lost one member (who by subterfuge & cunning got himself back from Lincoln in time to get a late one in the true time honoured tradition of a WHOT Traveller).
Trips are advertised in the Horse either by way of a poster, if we can be bovvered, or word of mouth (so keep those ears to the ground).
Potential trips may or may not include Bath, Brighton, Bristol, Norwich, Frinton on Sea & Azerbaijan (Other Bar only). Others may be planned entirely at the whim of the organisers.
